ELK POINT, S.D. (KCAU) - Elk Point-Jefferson capped off last season as the SDHSAA Class 11B State runner-up with an 11-1 record, gearing up for another deep run this fall.
The Huskies' brand of ball features a strong rushing attack, with the team set to replenish the backfield following the graduation of Beau Schmitz and Luke Schmitz after combining for over 1,700 yards and 28 touchdowns last season.
Head coach Jake Terry returns quarterback Levi Hanson and lead receiver Aiden Hammitt. EP-J's defense was among the best in the state from a statistical standpoint, boasting an 8-0 record when allowing 14 or fewer points.
The Huskies are excited to retool and reload this season.
"After getting to the championship last year. We know what we need to do to get there. But now we also know what we need to do to finish job and get pretty much win the whole thing and get it done," EP-J running back and defensive back Brady Van Roekel mentioned.
"I think we're just ready to go for this year and it's just a learning lesson from last year, like what it takes to be there. So we know what we have to accomplish to get back and win it all this year," EP-J quarterback and linebacker Levi Hanson added.
EP-J kicks off the season at McCook Central/Montrose on Friday, August 21st.
