The Chargers officially placed center Tyler Biadasz on season-ending injured reserve on Sunday, following a severe knee injury sustained during a joint training camp practice with the 49ers. The 28-year-old suffered significant damage to his ACL and additional left knee trauma when defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez fell into his leg during an 11-on-11 drill.
Biadasz was the centerpiece of the team's interior offensive line overhaul, having signed a lucrative three-year, $30 million contract in March after his release from the Commanders. Expected to provide crucial veteran stability directly in front of quarterback Justin Herbert, Biadasz will instead rehab and shift his focus for the 2027 campaign.
The Chargers will now turn to second-round pick Jake Slaughter to man the position. Slaughter, who played center for the University of Florida, will pivot back to his natural position after competing for the starting left guard job during camp. To fill the vacant roster spot, Los Angeles signed veteran wide receiver Gary Jennings.
