As the NASCAR Cup Series Chase approaches, Tyler Reddick has successfully navigated a challenging midseason slump, regaining his competitive edge just in time for the playoffs. After an impressive start to the 2026 season, where he secured victories in three of the first nine races, Reddick faced a series of unexpected setbacks that threatened his momentum.
Reddick candidly shared his frustrations, stating, "Oh yeah, we figured it out. It was called running over things that should never be on a racetrack, to having parts that never fail, fail, to cutting tires with light contact with the wall, to getting caught up in a wreck that started three rows behind you on a restart. I can keep going, but that kind of gives you an idea of what it was. Just crazy, crazy stuff." These unforeseen incidents contributed to a disheartening stretch where he finished 36th in consecutive races and 35th in another, significantly impacting his standings.
Despite these obstacles, Reddick demonstrated resilience, finishing in the top 11 in five of the last six races of the regular season. His strong performance culminated in a third-place finish at Daytona on August 29, setting a positive tone as he heads into the Chase. Reddick's turnaround reflects not only his driving skill but also the support he received from his team, particularly from co-owners Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin of 23XI Racing.
Hamlin, who has been enjoying a successful run in his own right, capitalized on Reddick's struggles to take the lead in the standings. At one point, Reddick had a comfortable 129-point advantage over Hamlin, but a power steering failure at Sonoma drastically altered the landscape, allowing Hamlin to surpass him by a single point. Hamlin's consistent performance has made him the regular-season points champion, and he enters the Chase as the top seed.
Reddick acknowledged the challenges of competing against a teammate in such form, noting, "In a sense of trying to maintain the points lead, it’s not ideal when your boss is on an all-time heater running first, second or third every week. You will eventually lose ground." However, he dismissed any notions that Hamlin's success contributed to his own difficulties, emphasizing the camaraderie within the team.
Both Hamlin and Jordan have been instrumental in Reddick's recovery, providing guidance and support during tough times. Reddick explained, "Denny is one of the first to come to you and say, 'What do we need to do? What do we need to look at?' I can go to him with things that went wrong. Mistakes that I made, things that I want to look at." Jordan, while not as experienced in NASCAR, has also played a crucial role in maintaining team morale, helping Reddick regain his focus.
As the Chase begins on September 6 at Darlington, Reddick is optimistic about his prospects, particularly given Toyota's dominance throughout the season. With 13 points races won by Toyota compared to six each by Chevrolet and Ford, Reddick is confident in the capabilities of his No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota. He stated, "There’s a lot of tracks in the Chase where, whether it’s us in the 45 or 23XI or Toyotas in general, have been very strong. Just the way the Chase sets up and is laid out is really, really good for us." With renewed momentum and a supportive team, Reddick is poised to make a significant impact as the NASCAR Chase unfolds.
