MONTEZUMA, Ind. — On September 26th, runners and outdoor enthusiasts will have the opportunity to participate in the 'Over the River and Through the Woods' race, organized by the Vermillion Trails Alliance. This annual event features both a 5K and a newly introduced 10K race, allowing participants to take in the beautiful landscapes of Montezuma while competing.
The race will kick off at 9:00 a.m. from Reeder Park, with the 10K course initially following the same route as the 5K before branching out into the northern areas of Montezuma. The addition of the 10K this year is expected to attract more participants looking for a longer distance challenge.
Bill Hartman, the president of the Vermillion Trails Alliance, shared insights into the preparations for this year’s race, noting that the team faced some obstacles. "This year we had the challenge because as the Wabash River came up, it actually washed out about 200ft of our trail," Hartman explained. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, the trail has been repaired and is ready for the event.
Midwest Timing will be on hand to ensure accurate timing for all participants, making it a competitive environment for both serious runners and casual participants alike. The race is not only about running; it also includes a morning festival that promises a variety of activities.
The festival will feature food vendors, bounce houses, foam parties, and a farmers' market, making it a family-friendly event. This combination of racing and festivities aims to create a vibrant community atmosphere for all attendees. Registration for the race is currently open, and it is recommended that interested participants sign up by September 21st to secure a race shirt.
