Updated Jaguars 53-man roster projection after preseason game v. Saints

With the Jacksonville Jaguars' first preseason game complete, let's put together an updated 53-man roster prediction.

As far as the overall evaluation process goes when it comes to determining playing time, roles, and who makes the final roster, it's been a big few days, with the joint practice and preseason game likely carrying more weight.

So given what we know and where we believe things stand in the moment, here is our latest roster projection.

Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens

Mullens has continued to handle the backup reps, as expected. His experience is valuable to have.

Bhayshul Tuten, Chris Rodriguez, LeQuint Allen

We've known who the top three on the depth chart are for some time. J'Mari Taylor will be a player to watch moving forward. Can he force the Jaguars to keep a fourth running back?

Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, CJ Williams, Josh Cameron

Austin Trammell's experience and ability to help on special teams could position him to make a roster push. That said, rookies CJ Williams and Josh Cameron have often taken advantage of their opportunities.

Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, Tanner Koziol

Along with Strange, it's clear that the rookies will be featured heavily from the jump. That leaves Quintin Morris and Hunter Long on the outside looking in. While typically teams keep a fourth tight end, the roster math elsewhere forced me to go light at tight end. As they did last year at the start, Jacksonville could try to get Morris back on the practice squad for depth.

Cole Van Lanen, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, Anton Harrison, Walker Little, Wyatt Milum, Emmanuel Pregnon, Jonah Monheim, Chuma Edoga

This unit has been hit with injuries, the latest being to Edoga. We don't know the extent of his injury, but for now, we will have him on the roster. His experience and versatility have been valuable as the Jaguars have navigated injuries and movement up front.

Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, Danny Striggow, BJ Green, Zach Durfee, Wesley Williams, Arik Armstead, Albert Regis, DaVon Hamilton, Ruke Orhorhoro, Matt Dickerson

I think that Durfee has flashed enough that the Jaguars aren't going to move on from him. Dickerson is listed as a backup on the unofficial depth chart and seems to be a roster lock at this point.

Ventrell Miller, Foye Oluokun, Dennis Gardeck, Jack Kiser, Branson Combs, Yasir Abdullah

Perhaps I'm putting too much weight in the moment, but Abdullah's performance against the Saints was very good. He was all over the place on defense and has proven to be a core special teams contributor.

Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Jarrian Jones, Jabbar Muhammad

From my last projection, I did not include Christian Braswell this time. Again, it going heavy elsewhere created some tough decisions at other positions. Muhammad has lined up inside and out and flashed more often.

Antonio Johnson, Eric Murray, Caleb Ransaw, Jalen Huskey, Rayuan Lane

This position group seems to be pretty well set.

Logan Cooke, Ross Matiscik, Cam Little

No mystery here.
