Earlier this month, USC got some tough injury news before the season even began with the announcement that starting center Kilian O’Connor will miss the entire year. However, it appears as though O’Connor is not the Trojans’ only injury of fall camp.
On Saturday, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported that sophomore defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart is expected to miss the start of the season with a foot injury. Per Zenitz, USC expects to have Stewart back before the team’s Big Ten opener at Rutgers on September 19.
Stewart notably also dealt with a foot injury for much of last year. He had surgery on it following the conclusion of the regular season, causing him to miss the Alamo Bowl against TCU. While the surgery was seemingly supposed to fix things, it appears as though Stewart is still dealing with some issues.
Obviously, injuries are never a good thing. Given that the Trojans’ first three games are against San Jose State, Fresno State, and Louisiana, however, USC should be just fine if he has to miss the first few weeks of the season. The Trojans’ top priority should be doing everything possible in order to make sure that Stewart is fully healthy for the massive game against Oregon on September 26.
