Baseball fans are in an uproar after a viral video seemingly shows a Chicago Cubs fan yanking a young woman out of the way so he could grab a home run ball that hit the stands. However, the situation may not be what it seems.

A video taken at the Sunday, August 16, game between the Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals showed a now-viral moment that took place at the bottom of the third inning.

According to the New York Post, Pete Crow-Armstrong blasted a home run at Chicago’s famous Wrigley Field that sent fans scrambling to catch. The video seemingly shows a man in a Kenny Lofton jersey grabbing a young woman by the back and yanking her out of the way of the scramble. In the video, the woman flails back and seemingly falls to the ground as the unbothered man reaches down to grab the ball.

An X user shared a wider angle of the moment in an August 17 post that appears to show a different story. The other clip seems to show the young woman reaching for the ball from a row back. She seems to slip and is in danger of face-planting when the man in the Lofton Jersey grabs her and pulls her up to her feet — not away from the ball as the other video implies.

After the man pulls her up, he does not go for the ball but rather the hat of a nearby fan who lost it in the scramble. Regardless, some are still divided over what actually happened in the stands at Sunday’s game.

Ultimately, the Cardinals went on to prevail against the Cubs 11-4.
