Aston Villa completed the signings of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and left back Matteo Ruggeri on Wednesday.
Japan international Suzuki, 23, joins on a permanent deal from Parma having spent the last two seasons in Serie A, and his signing throws the future of current number one Emiliano Martinez into doubt.
Born in the United States before growing up in Urawa, Suzuki made his debut for Urawa Red Diamonds aged 18 and has been capped 22 times.
A graduate of the Atalanta academy, Italian Ruggeri, 24, also arrives on a permanent deal from Atlético Madrid and boosts Villa numbers at the back following the departure of Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain.
