Wake Forest has the team to be sneaky-good among all the sneaky-good ACC teams, but there won’t be any sneaking up on anyone with Purdue, Miami, and Louisville up next. There’s work to do with a boatload of transfers on offense, and that’s what the Akron game is for.
The Zips might not be a national powerhouse, and this is supposed to be about the paycheck to be a sure win for the home side, but head coach Joe Moorhead’s team has enough offensive pop to make this interesting.
- Wake Forest can’t afford to have any problems with the Zips. Four of the next six games are on the road, and one of the home dates is against Miami.
- Akron lost its first two games to Wyoming and Nebraska last season by a combined score of 78-0, but it ended up winning three of its last four games.
- The Zips haven’t won a season opener over an FBS team since beating Army 22-14 in 2007. Wake Forest has won ten of its last 11 season openers.

Wake Forest fixed the glitch. The big concern coming into the offseason was the secondary, and it found the right guys in Deuce Blades at FIU and Bernard Causey from Georgia State.
As long as these two are okay, the rest of the Demon Deacon defense should have no problem taking care of everything else.

Akron’s offense will move the ball, but it’ll stall too often when it has chances to do something to change the tide of the game. Wake Forest might not be anything special early on offensively, but it’ll eventually find its footing and pour it on late.
