The Golden State Warriors have been under the microscope for their inability to build a championship-caliber roster around Steph Curry as he enters the final years of his career. After failing to secure LeBron James, many basketball fans were frustrated with Golden State’s lack of major moves.
Curry’s name even surfaced in trade rumors, and there was speculation that he could potentially ask for a trade. However, Curry has remained loyal to the Warriors and appears committed to finishing his career in Golden State.
“Steph Curry is not going to be requesting a trade,” ClutchPoints Brett Siegel said on the Clutch Scoops podcast. “We have that on extremely good authority from the Warriors that Steph Curry is staying there. He wants to remain there his entire career.”
In fact, the Warriors and Curry could have an extension completed soon. The four-time NBA champion has a decision to make regarding how much he wants the deal to be worth.
“What the terms of a new extension look like for Curry will be completely up to him, as the Warriors are prepared to offer their star whatever he wants. If Steph wants the full $136.7 million through the 2028-29 season, he will get that. If he wants to take a discount to help the team, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have no problem with said deal," Siegel wrote.
Siegel also believes the deal will get done soon, potentially before training camp begins.
“As we have been reporting on ClutchPoints over the last few weeks, I'd expect Steph and the Warriors to get a new deal done before camp begins,” Siegel posted.
There is no doubt that Curry is loyal to Golden State and wants to finish his career where it started. It will be interesting to see whether the team that won championships with Curry will still be able to contend for a playoff spot over the next few seasons.
This season, Golden State could find itself on the outside looking in. However, the Warriors appear poised to keep Curry in the Bay Area on what could be the final contract of his Hall of Fame career.
