NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 15: Nasim Nunez #26 of the Washington Nationals is tagged out between first base and second base during the seventh inning by Marcus Semien #10 of the New York Mets at Citi Field on August 15, 2026 in New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images) | Getty Images

The Nats’ struggles against divisional opponents continued with a sweep at the hands of the last place Mets. Thankfully they will be playing a non-divisional opponent to start the week. The Nats have been quite good in interleague play with a 22-17 record. They will look to keep that going against the Rangers.

Nasim Nunez is getting the start at his new shortstop position. However, CJ Abrams will not be at second base quite yet. He will get the start at DH. That means Jorbit Vivas is at second and Brady House is at third. Harry Ford will get the nod behind the plate in this one. Abimelec Ortiz will be in the lineup against the team that signed him as well. Jackson Kent will be making his second career start tonight and looks to improve his control.

The Rangers offense has not been an elite one this year, but they have some dangerous bats. Despite a down year, Corey Seager remains a feared bat. Wyatt Langford and longtime NL East foe Brandon Nimmo have been two of the Rangers best hitters this season. Catcher Danny Jansen returns after being out with injury for a while. Cal Quantrill has had a major bounceback in Texas this year and he will get the start.

The Nats need to brush off the weekend sweep and get back to playing better baseball. Outside of that Reds sweep, the last few weeks have been truly disastrous. Hopefully they can build some momentum as we finish up the season. Follow along in the comments down below and let’s go Nats!
