Seattle will have several clear position battles play out in tonight’s game against the Tennessee Titans, set to kick off at 5 p.m. PST. The clearest is running back, where Jacardia Wright and Velus Jones Jr. will see the bulk of the work with both Price out and George Holani barely playing. There were 28 total carries to go around in the first game vs. the Dallas Cowboys, and Holani took 12. I don't see him taking more than 5 tonight, though. Emanuel Wilson is still nursing a hamstring injury, but is listed as the third on the depth chart. Will the fourth and fifth options in Wright and Jones see around 10 carries apiece? The team also signed former Oregon State RB Anthony Hankerson this week, so look for him to try to impress with a few touches. Anyone can gain ground with one big play.
The running back battle is always a fun one to watch in preseason, so now that Price has clearly locked up the lead back role in the short-term and Holani got warm, let’s enjoy the opportunity to watch Wright, Jones, and Hankerson’s usage tonight. All three have worked on their craft in the Pacific Northwest for at least ten months, an the best of the pack might make the 53-man active roster due to Wilson’s uncertain status. We’ll report back with observations, data, and details later.
