Sporting have completed the signing of Australian winger Nestory Irankunda from Watford, handing Rui Borges another attacking option ahead of the new season.

The 20-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the Lisbon club, keeping him at Alvalade until 2031. Sporting will pay an initial €15 million for the transfer, with a further €3 million potentially due through performance-related bonuses. His contract also includes an €80m release clause.

Irankunda arrives in Portugal after impressing during his first full season in English football. He joined Watford permanently after leaving Bayern Munich and went on to make 42 appearances, contributing four goals and four assists.

The winger began his career with Adelaide United before earning a move to Bayern in 2024. After struggling for regular opportunities in Germany, he spent time on loan at Grasshoppers before establishing himself at Watford.

Irankunda also represented Australia at the 2026 World Cup, scoring once in four appearances. He now joins Sporting’s squad with the opportunity to play Champions League football and continue his rapid development in Portugal.
