Kai Havertz has laid down the gauntlet to Arsenal’s rivals by insisting the Premier League champions want “to win everything”.
The Gunners ended their 22-year wait for the league title last season and started their defence with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Coventry, a week after they saw off Manchester City to take the Community Shield.
Mikel Arteta’s side were a penalty shootout away from claiming their first Champions League trophy – succumbing to Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Budapest – but Havertz believes the Gunners have all the ingredients in place to launch an assault on the biggest prizes.
“When you have that taste of winning one title then you want to do it again, and we have a team that can compete for every title possible,” said the Germany international in an interview with Sky Sports.
“Last year there was only one, but this year there is a lot more to come and we want to win everything.
“There is a long way to go, and at the moment, the focus is just on the next game. We have made a good few steps, winning the Community Shield and winning the first game of the season. But now it starts.
“We will have the Champions League, the League Cup and FA Cup, and games every three days, and then we will show what we are capable of. We are positive and want to give everything this season to achieve our goals again and give more titles to the club.”
Havertz, who started and scored in Arsenal’s wins against City and then Coventry, will again be expected to spearhead his side’s attack in their next game, away at Aston Villa on Monday night.
The club announced on Saturday that Marli Salmon has signed his first professional contract on his 17th birthday.
The highly-rated defender made his debut in Arsenal’s Champions League win at Club Brugge last season before he was handed his first start in an FA Cup victory against Mansfield.
