What does Caitlin Clark want to be remembered for after basketball career? Pretty simple

Caitlin Clark already owns a lot of basketball records, is bound to set more and is seeking a WNBA championship with the Indiana Fever.

The numbers and trophies aren't prominent in what she hopes her legacy will be when she stops playing basketball, Clark said before the Fever's game Tuesday night, Aug. 18, against the Toronto Tempo.

"And I hope, you know, when I’m done playing one day, that’s what people remember the most about me, is the way I’ve been able to unite people to cheer on basketball and love a game, or bring people together to, you know, love a sport in a way that they’ve maybe never have before," Clark said.

Clark averages 22.1 points (third in the league), 8.3 assists (first) and 3.8 rebounds per game as the Fever have won five straight games and stand third in WNBA standings.

In her third season, Clark's presence has been one key factor in the league's greater prominence, including greater pay for players and increased television and streaming exposure.

"Like there’s so many people that have come up to me and been like, 'I’ve never watched women’s basketball before,' and I don’t take offense to that," she said. "I think that’s a really cool thing to, you know, bring people in that have maybe never experienced something that I’ve loved all my life."

Here's Clark's full answer:

“Hopefully, it’s just the impact that you can leave on people and the way you made them feel.”
