Whitefish Bay to play for spot in Little League World Series

No Wisconsin team has ever made it to the Little League World Series.

Whitefish Bay is one step away from becoming the first.

As the Wisconsin champion, Whitefish Bay defeated Missouri, 9-4, on Thursday, Aug. 13 to advance to the Midwest Region final in Whitestown, Indiana.

It'll play Iowa at noon CT on Friday, Aug. 14 in the regional final, televised on ESPN. The Little League World Series starts Aug. 19 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Against Missouri, Whitefish Bay trailed, 3-0, after the first inning but came back with five runs in the top of the second. It scored two more in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to make it 9-3.

Leo Van Caster started and pitched 4⅓ innings, allowing four runs, with four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Sam Irwin pitched the rest of the fifth, walking one and striking out one, and Kirin Curley allowed just one hit in the sixth.

Hudson Nava had two hits and two RBIs for Whitefish Bay. Parker Sloden had two RBIs, Levi Cushman had two hits and two runs, and Owen Bergholz had two runs.

It's been a banner year for Whitefish Bay's Little League teams.

The Junior League team (U14) won the state and regional titles to advance to the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan. It plays Thursday night, Aug. 13 for a spot in the U.S. championship game on ESPN+. Whitefish Bay's U10 and U11 teams won state titles, too.
