Why Clark Lea didn’t name starting quarterback for Vanderbilt football

Clark Lea did not name a starting quarterback after the first Vanderbilt football scrimmage held Aug. 15.

Jared Curtis and Blaze Berlowitz are competing for the starting job. Curtis is a 5-star recruit who was the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 class. Berlowitz has been Diego Pavia's backup for the last three seasons.

Lea indicated that he is unlikely to name a starting quarterback within the next week, instead waiting until after the second scrimmage Aug. 22 to evaluate and name a starter for the opener against Austin Peay at FirstBank Stadium on Sept. 6 (6 p.m. CT, SEC Network+).
