Will Levis Auditions for New York Jets Ahead of Titans Matchup

Quarterback Will Levis is exploring new opportunities as he auditions for the New York Jets on September 3, following his recent waiver from the Tennessee Titans. This workout comes as the Jets prepare for their opening game against the Titans on September 13 in Nashville.

Levis, who was drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, was selected after the team traded up to secure the 33rd overall pick. During his time with Tennessee, he started 21 games over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, achieving a record of 5-16. In those games, Levis threw for 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, completing 61% of his passes. However, his journey took a setback when he missed the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. This year, he lost the backup quarterback position to Mitchell Trubisky during the preseason.

After being waived on August 30, Levis cleared waivers, which allows him to sign with any NFL team, either on their active roster or practice squad. The Jets, currently with two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster—Geno Smith and rookie Cade Klubnik—along with Bailey Zappe on the practice squad, are looking to bolster their quarterback options as they head into the new season.

In addition to Levis, the Jets also evaluated former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jack Plummer during their recent workouts. This indicates that the team is actively seeking to strengthen their quarterback depth ahead of the upcoming season.

While the Jets are preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the Titans, Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi expressed his appreciation for Levis after his release. "Credit to Will. He did a tremendous job throughout OTAs and camp. He was always a professional. We had a great conversation when he left, and I’ll be rooting for him," Borgonzi stated two days after Levis was waived. This sentiment highlights the respect Levis earned during his time with the Titans, despite the challenges he faced.

As the Jets gear up for their season opener, the addition of a quarterback like Levis could provide them with valuable depth and experience, especially given his prior starting experience in the league. The upcoming game against the Titans will not only be a test for the Jets but also a significant moment for Levis, who is eager to prove himself in a new environment.

With the NFL season on the horizon, all eyes will be on how Levis performs in his audition with the Jets and what role he might play as the team prepares for their critical opening match against his former team.
