Women’s basketball journalists Annie Costabile and Sabreena Merchant published an article about the WNBA’s MVP race on Thursday. The article listed the stats of three main candidates: A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark and Olivia Miles.

The comparison basically highlighted why Clark might be getting sidelined in the MVP discussions. Costabile claimed that the growing attention on Miles has shifted the focus away from the Indiana Fever star.

Fans had a bit to say about what they perceived as Clark being overlooked.

“From the people who told you Clark should be benched, Why isn’t the media talking more about Clark being an MVP? The WNBA Media has perfected the gaslighting,” one fan said.

Wilson is averaging 26.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Clark is averaging 22.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists. Miles is averaging 19.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists.

MVP award: A three-horse race

The WNBA’s MVP race is heating up. A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark and Olivia Miles are the three major names who have shown that they deserve to win the prestigious honor. Wilson is chasing her fifth MVP award, which would extend her record for most MVP awards in the history of the WNBA.

Many believe that winning an MVP award is a certainty in Clark’s career. However, the kind of season she’s had up until now surely puts her in the top three. If the Indiana Fever win the WNBA title, it would be difficult to argue against Clark winning the MVP.

Miles can become only the second player, after Candace Parker, to win MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Moreover, leading the Lynx to the top of the WNBA table in the absence of Napheesa Collier has made her case for the MVP even stronger.
