Worthing 0 Brentford Women 5: Constantine, Cheatley and Gilligan strikes propel Bees to away winBrentford Women cruised to a 5-0 London and South East Premier win over Worthing on Sunday afternoon.Millie Constantine impressed in her club debut at Sussex Transport Community Stadium, scoring a brace, as did Ashley Cheatley, while Katie Gilligan also got on the scoresheet for the Bees.

The start couldn’t have been better for Carly Williams' side, Constantine making the most of her first start for the club. Receiving the short corner from Abbi Smith on three minutes, the winger looked to curl in a cross to Wiktoria Kiszkis near the goal line, but the ball missed the forward and bounced past Sofia Harding in goal for the hosts and into the bottom left corner for the opener.

Three minutes later Kiszkis played the ball to Smith streaming into the left side of the box. The Bees no.15’s cross sailed to a dangerous position across the goal, but couldn’t be met.

Rebecca Teale kept the ball alive and immediately crossed it back to Kiszkis, her header saved by Harding. Constantine was there for the rebound, but her effort was also matched by the Worthing shot stopper.

Harding was at it again on 16 minutes as she prevented a near certain goal. Cheatley found space on the edge of the left side of the box, shooting on the bounce with her left foot across her body. Harding dived low to her left and got a hand to it, forcing the ball inches wide of the right post for a corner.

Maddie Phillips broke forward down the right side of the box on 24 minutes and looked to threaten the goal, but her shot smashed into the post.

After defending strongly for the first 30 minutes, the hosts had a good look on goal. The ball fell to Sophia Wickenden near the goal line, but her effort was deflected over the bar for a corner.

Williams’ side immediately responded and were rewarded for their first half dominance with a second goal. Cheatley ran onto a neat ball from Makeba Black, taking possession near the edge of the box. The no.16 saw Harding out of her net and immediately chipped the ball over the top, the ball bouncing into the empty net to open her account for the afternoon.

She had her second three minutes later. Running onto Kiszkis’s slick pass through the backline into the box, Cheatley calmly slotted the ball home to make it 3-0.

The forward looked to have her hat-trick four minutes later as she found herself one-vs-one with Harding and smashed it home, but was ruled offside.

The fresh legs of Ilana Harris-Walters and Georgie Giddings were brought on at half-time, as was the side’s second debutant for the day, Imogen Cochrane.

It took the west Londoners two minutes to get on the scoresheet for a fourth time after the restart. Kiszkis’s cross from the right side found Cheatley in a great scoring position in the box, but her shot was saved. Gilligan’s effort off the rebound was also kept out by Harding, before Constantine tapped it home from close range for her brace.

Constantine was at it again on the hour mark, this time looking to assist. Receiving the ball from Cheatley down the left side, the winger played it straight back to the no.16 inside the box, but Cheatley’s strike was deflected out for a corner.

One minute later Brentford’s fifth goal came. Taking possession in traffic inside the box, Gilligan did brilliantly to turn out of trouble away from multiple defenders, before calmly slotting it home.

Maï Louvrier was subbed on with under half an hour to play and looked to have an impact straight away as she ran onto Harris-Walters’ pass through the backline, but her shot was secured by Harding.

With under 10 minutes to play fellow substitute Chelsie Berry broke forward down the right side before playing into Phillips. The midfidler set the ball for Gilligan to launch at goal, but it sailed over the bar.

Phillips had her turn to shoot from distance next, Harding doing well to tip the ball over the bar and away from danger.

In the fifth minute of added time Brentford’s clean sheet looked to be in danger as Ludmila De Sousa ran onto a loose Bees’ pass and tried to chip Mya Francis-Pownall, but the Brentford goalkeeper did well to push the ball away from danger and out for a corner.
