TMRW Sports is making significant strides with the upcoming launch of its women's league, WTGL, which is set to debut on November 8. In a notable development, WTGL has finalized a multiyear media rights agreement that will see its matches broadcast across ESPN's platforms and Scripps Sports’ ION network. This partnership marks a pivotal moment for the league as it prepares to enter the competitive landscape of women's sports.

The deal, as reported by Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal, will feature a total of 15 match days in its inaugural season. The broadcasts will be evenly distributed between ION and ESPN, ensuring that fans have access to the league through multiple viewing options. This arrangement is particularly beneficial as it provides WTGL with a robust platform to reach both dedicated golf enthusiasts and a wider sports audience.

Rufus Hack, the president of TMRW Sports golf, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the complementary strengths of ESPN and ION. He stated, "ESPN gives us premier sports reach, credibility, and a platform that can connect WTGL with core golf fans and broader sports audiences. ION brings broad free over-the-air distribution and, like ESPN, a proven commitment to women’s sports." This collaboration is expected to enhance the visibility of women's golf, which has been gaining traction in recent years.

Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports, confirmed that ION will be paying a rights fee for the WTGL broadcasts, although he did not disclose specific financial details. The negotiations for this deal reportedly began over a year ago, indicating a long-term commitment from ION to expand its women's sports programming. ION currently broadcasts several women's leagues, including the NWSL, WNBA, and PWHL, and aims to provide year-round coverage of women's sports.

WTGL's matches will air every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, a consistent scheduling strategy that contrasts with the more varied timings of TGL's men's matches. Lawlor emphasized the importance of having a regular viewing time, stating, "A lot of people know where to find it, the fact that the league would be there every week." This consistency is expected to help build a loyal fan base for the new league.

As WTGL prepares for its inaugural season, the league's talent lineup is still being finalized. ESPN has been involved with TGL's men's league since its launch and has provided on-air talent for those broadcasts. John Suchenski, ESPN's senior director of programming and acquisitions, noted that fans can expect some differences in the presentation of WTGL compared to TGL. TMRW Sports will continue to manage the production of WTGL in-house, maintaining the same approach as it has with its men's counterpart.

While WTGL is gearing up for its debut, TGL is currently navigating its own two-year agreement with ESPN. There are expectations that ESPN will retain the media rights for TGL when the next season begins in early 2027. Although no formal announcements have been made regarding this renewal, industry insiders suggest that the men's league will continue its relationship with ESPN.
