XCEPTIONAL ATHLETE: Notre Dame Academy’s Richie Flanigan

(WFRV) - This week's Xceptional Athlete of the Week hails from Notre Dame Academy, where the Local 5 Sports Team is highlighting senior Richie Flanigan.

The offensive lineman is one of several headliners in a star-studded senior class for the Tritons. Flanigan, a four-star prospect, is committed to play Division I football for Notre Dame.

With Wisconsin Badgers commit and reigning Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year Kingston Allen leading a dominant run game, Flanigan does plenty of the dirty work up front. His blocking helped pave the way for Allen's monster Week 1 performance, as the standout running back rushed for more than 400 yards and seven touchdowns in an overtime win over Neenah.

Flanigan is also continuing a family tradition in South Bend. He joins his brother, James, who is currently with the Fighting Irish, and follows in the footsteps of his father, Jim, who played at Notre Dame in the 1990s before spending time with the Green Bay Packers.
