Winners of five straight games, the Yankees pulled within three games of the AL East-leading Rays after Friday night's 3-1 win against Toronto.
On Saturday afternoon, Yanks' lefty Ryan Weathers (5-7, 3.56) will oppose Blue Jays' ace Dylan Cease (7-5, 2.42) at Yankee Stadium.
Cease faced the Yanks last week in Toronto, giving up two runs over 6.1 innings and striking out 10 batters in a no-decision. He's been in the AL Cy Young Award conversation with Cam Schlittler, who tossed six innings Friday for his 11th win this year.
Weathers has posted a 1.97 ERA over his last seven starts, including last Sunday's 7.1-inning, one-run no-decision at Toronto.
Spencer Jones has homered in two straight games, and fellow lefty-hitting outfielder Cody Bellinger (strained left hamstring) could return to the Yankees lineup as early as Sunday's series finale against Toronto.
On Friday, the Yanks placed third baseman Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injury list due to a sprained left thumb, caused by an awkward slide in Wednesday's game at Baltimore.
McMahon told reporters that it wasn't a great situation, but "it could have been worse'' and that he's "thankful that there's most likely no surgery...hopefully just the minimum 10 days'' until he returns.
Here is the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's 1:35 p.m. game:
- Trent Grisham, CF
- Ben Rice, DH
- Heliot Ramos, LF
- Luis Garcia Jr., 1B
- Spencer Jones, RF
- George Lombard Jr., SS
- Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B
- Austin Wells, C
- Jose Caballero, 3B
