As the Yankees wait on key reinforcements to their lineup, a key defensive infielder is going to be sidelined.

The team announced on Friday, Aug. 21 that third baseman Ryan McMahon is heading to the 10-day injured list with a thumb sprain. McMahon suffered the injury earlier in the week when sliding into second base during a win over the Baltimore Orioles.

The Yankees recalled Max Schuemann to take McMahon's roster spot.

McMahon, 31, has 10 home runs and 32 RBIs on the year while sporting a .216 average and .282 on-base percentage.

His injury comes as Cody Bellinger begins a rehab stint with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. There is no timeline for the returns of Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton, although manager Aaron Boone indicated this week that both are progressing in their rehabs.
