Yankees' Anthony Volpe Showing Off Power In Triple-A

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe

The Yankees optioned Anthony Volpe to Triple-A after an extended run in the big leagues.

Volpe's defense had made him a regular for Aaron Boone, but his offensive output in four seasons was well below average. On Aug. 4, the Yankees finally optioned him to Triple-A in favor of George Lombard Jr. The hope is that Volpe will make offensive adjustments and earn his way back into the Yankees lineup.

He has played 11 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since being optioned. He is 11-for-45 with three doubles and a triple. The offense has not been great, but one thing he has done is show off his power. He has three home runs in 11 games since being sent down.

Volpe has shown some sneaky power in his time with the Yankees. He had 21 home runs as a rookie. He had 12 in his sophomore season, but hit 19 homers last year. However, this season he had just one home run in the big leagues.

His batting average may not be great, but he is hitting for power right now, which is something he was not doing for the Yankees this season. Although it is coming against Triple-A pitching. There's not much of a bright spot with Volpe right now, but his homers are at least something.
