NEW YORK – Giancarlo Stanton was seen running bases Tuesday afternoon, another benchmark toward his – still not-yet-determined – return to the Yankees lineup.
“When that time comes, obviously, it’ll be very good to get him back,’’ said Yanks manager Aaron Boone, prior to Yanks vs. Mariners at the Stadium.
Stanton has not been in the Yankees’ lineup since April 25, due to two strained left calf injuries.
“He’s stacked a lot of good days,’’ said Boone, adding that “there’s at least a chance’’ that Stanton would require some degree of a minor league rehab stint.
Exactly when he’s ready for that next step isn’t known. “When they (the medical staff) say we’re ready to do something, then we go,’’ said Boone.
Meanwhile, lefty-hitting outfielder Cody Bellinger (strained left hamstring) has been “running really well,’’ said Boone, putting him at “90 percent of his normal top speed.’’
Bellinger has been sidelined since July 26, but he could be on the short side of a four-to-six week timeline for return.
At certain intervals during workouts, “he still feels a little bit of tightness,’’ said Boone. It’s about “getting through that last wave.
“Hopefully, he works through it this week as the intensity ramps up,’’ said Boone. “I don’t think he’s far off.’’
Lefty Carlos Rodon (elbow inflammation) is due to make at least one more minor league rehab start Thursday at Class AA Somerset.
Rodon threw 48 pitches in his previous rehab outing, and he might be summoned back to the Yanks’ rotation by next week, though on a limited pitch count.
Yankees captain Aaron Judge (right rib fracture) remains further away, though both Judge and the club have maintained he’ll return at some point before the regular season ends.
Meanwhile, right-hander Luis Gil began a minor league rehab assignment – tossing one scoreless inning (that was all he was scheduled for) at Class A Hudson Valley.
Gil last pitched for the Yanks on April 26, was optioned to Triple-A and soon developed shoulder inflammation.
Boone acknowledged the potential that Gil (due to pitch again Saturday) could be a bullpen option for the Yankees going forward in 2026.
