Sint Truiden have announced the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Ahmad Abu Rasen. The Saudi Arabian U23 goalkeeper joins the Belgian Pro League side as back up to the talented Leo Kokubo, with the 25-year-old from Japan having been one of the top goalkeepers in the league last season. Abu Rasen provides Sint Truiden with a talented young goalkeeper who should provide able back-up to Kokubo.
Abu Rasen began his career with the Al-Fayha youth set up before joining Al-Hilal. He has been with Al-Hilal for a number of years but leaves on a free transfer having not made an appearance for the senior team. The young goalkeeper did drop down in the Saudi Arabian second tier with NEOM SC on loan but did not make a first team appearance.
Rather than remain in the Saudi Arabia league system, Abu Ransen has decided to try his luck in Europe. It is a move that could pay off if Kokubo leaves, with sides certainly interested in the talented Japanese goalkeeper. Abu Ransen has been capped at youth level by Saudi Arabia, playing in friendlies for the U23 and U21 teams.
