Early prognostications did not consider the Washington Commanders a top contender in the NFC, but with quarterback Jayden Daniels back in full health, they could make an inspired run, similar to what they did in 2024.
It was the first year of general manager Adam Peters at the helm, and he wants to recreate the magic in the upcoming season, although the Commanders will be without offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton for an extended period due to a bicep injury and a pectoral injury, respectively.
The Commanders had a 1-2 record in their preseason schedule, including a 38-point loss to the Baltimore Ravens. But in a report from The Washington Times’ Liam Griffin, Peters remained bullish about their upcoming campaign.

“I have a ton of confidence in this team and a ton of confidence in this coaching staff. We haven’t shown a lot, in terms of offensively and defensively, and there have been a lot of times when we haven’t had our players, whether it’s in games or even in practice. (But we’re) very confident in where we’re at,” said Peters.
With Daniels at the forefront, the additions of wide receiver Stefon Diggs, running back Rachaad White, linebacker Odafe Oweh, and the new scheme of offensive coordinator David Blough, Washington could be a dark horse.
A fresh start is exactly what Daniels and the Commanders need, and coach Dan Quinn is quite happy with what he has been seeing.
“I love Jayden’s readiness. He took over 500 snaps in this training camp—half a season’s worth of reps. His timing with (Stefon Diggs) and Terry (McLaurin) is invaluable,” said Quinn.
Daniels must be itching to bounce back after playing only seven games last season due to a hamstring injury. He passed for 1,262 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The Commanders will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1.
