It's just madness at Liverpool right now. And things will reportedly take a turn for the worse any moment now.
The transfer window has shut and Liverpool are now fixed with their squad. And what a squad it is.
Not because it's fantastic or title-contending but because it's so clearly imbalanced. This is not the kind of squad you plan to go into a season with - it's one you expect a team to end up with after a period of incredible upheaval.
Liverpool have no right wingers. They do have four left wingers, though, two of which arrived this summer. One of them - notably the one who has started the season the best - they tried to sell to Manchester City but pulled out of a deal because they failed to sign Ismaila Sarr.
Sarr being both an older and far, far more accomplished player than Gakpo.
The squad also has one fit right-back in Jeremie Frimpong, but no one can actually say for sure if he's able to play the position. Their left-back situation is decidedly worse than last season, too, as Kostas Tsimikas replaced Andy Robertson.
Centre-backs? Well who knows what the plan is. The only players guaranteed to have a contract beyond this season are Jeremy Jacquet (21, played two first-team games since January, had shoulder surgery this year) and Giovanni Leoni (19, one first-team game in the last year, had knee surgery in 2025).
Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are both out of contract next year. Ronald Araujo will leave unless Liverpool trigger an expensive buy clause in his loan contract.
All in all, Van Dijk is the only member of the group who's a relative known quantity. He's also 35.
Strikers? Well, there are one of those. Alexander Isak is still trying to prove he's worth a record-breaking sum, while Hugo Ekitiké remains injured for months to come.
Then there's the midfield: a complete mess. Liverpool have essentially built a group entirely out of attacking midfielders, save for Wataru Endo who can't start for whatever reason.
They've sold Curtis Jones on the cheap and then just not replaced him. Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szobszlai are tied down to massive, long-term deals but there are serious doubts over their ability to play together.
That's the state of the squad coming out of the transfer window. It's full of gaps and questions, completely overshadowing the individual quality.
But guess what? Things are about to get even more muddled.
This is all the work of Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, of course. Saying it like that legitimately makes him sound like a super villain but here we are.
The rubber stamp on it all is that he won't actually stick around to see how it works as all reports suggest he's now off to Al-Hilal with the end of his Liverpool contract. And that, genuinely, is insane.
This is a squad that plainly makes no sense on paper. There are questions that need answering en masse next year, and many in January, too.
A new sporting director will need to come in - someone who potentially doesn't rate the head coach. Or potentially wants to build in a different style. Or potentially (and likely) sees a squad that needs an overhaul as no part of it offers even a short-term future.
Liverpool have spent ridiculous amounts of money over the last two summers, with the first three nine-figure signings in club history. The sum of that is a squad that needs a lot of work if it's going to function properly at the top of the game.
Because even if Andoni Iraola plays a blinder here and gets things working seamlessly, several of these players are leaving next year and there are concerns about the injury recovery of at least three stars.
This has been a mad transfer window that made little sense and cast confusion over everything. Hughes's exit then adds even more of that - who knows what things will look like in a year? No one has a clue.
