‘Going to be movement’ – Fabrizio Romano has just dropped a fresh transfer claim on Curtis Jones

Fabrizio Romano has said that he expects ‘movement’ around Curtis Jones in the final three weeks of the summer transfer window.

There has been much speculation over the past couple of months surrounding the 25-year-old’s future, and that has intensified since he missed the friendly defeat to Monaco last weekend, although Andoni Iraola attributed the midfielder’s absence to a minor hip issue (liverpoolfc.com).

Romano claimed earlier in the summer that the Toxteth native has been ‘keen’ on a potential move to Inter Milan, who saw an initial £21.7m bid for him rejected in recent weeks as the Reds hold out for £34m (The Athletic).

Romano expecting ‘movement’ around Curtis Jones this month

Shortly after 8am BST on Wednesday morning, Romano uploaded a video to his eponymous YouTube channel in which he concluded with a brief but informative update on the Liverpool midfielder.

He stated: “Inter keep thinking about Curtis Jones. Curtis Jones is another target for Inter. They consider him as a priority in midfield, and for sure, there is going to be movement around him as well.”

Jones facing into a pivotal few weeks regarding his future

The rumours regarding the Reds’ number 17 aren’t going away, and it’ll be compelling to see what part he plays in the two friendlies against Como on Sunday. Will he be included with what’s expected to be the stronger XI for the evening kick-off, or the ‘backup’ side we could see for the afternoon fixture behind closed doors?

Iraola has spoken on the record about his eagerness to keep Jones ‘not only for this year’ (his contract expires next June), although the head coach’s thoughts on the 25-year-old will become apparent in how frequently he’s named in the staring line-up and how much game-time he’s afforded.

We can foresee Inter coming back in with an improved offer for the England international – whether or not it meets Liverpool’s asking price is the burning question.

The Serie A champions might be holding out hope that the player’s delicate contract situation will ultimately prompt Anfield chiefs into accepting a bid for less than his reported asking price, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year like they did with Ibrahima Konate earlier this summer.

We’d much rather see Jones remain at his boyhood club – losing a player of his importance this late in the transfer window would be a hammer blow to Iraola – but these next three weeks could be pivotal in determining his long-term future.
