Longtime New York high school football coach Bob Fehranbach stepped down this week, citing a "lack of connection" with the players, according to local media outlet Newsday.com.
Fehranbach, who had been at the helm of General Douglas MacArthur High School's football program in Levvittown, NY, for 28 years, resigned after the team's first official practice of the season on Monday. He cited his retirement as a physical education teacher at the school in 2025 as part of the reason for the lack of connection.
During his tenure, Fehranbach led the Generals to a 151-97-2 overall record and two Nassau Conference II championships. They've struggled in recent years, not logging a winning season since 2021.
His three assistant coaches, Steve Fazzolari, Tommy Bobal and Ryan Cunningham have taken over practice duties following his exit. The Levittown school district, of which General Douglas MacArthur is a part, does not currently have an athletic director following the previous AD's resignation in June.
The Generals will open their football season Sept. 10 at Mepham.
