Enes Kanter has been heaping praise on Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham this week.

Cunningham previously spoke out on protecting young girls from biological males in women’s sports.

That sparked a lot of debate around transgender athletes and also saw Kanter declare for the 2027 WNBA draft.

Now, the former WNBA player has commented on Cunningham and revealed ‘so many’ girls message him about the Fever player.

In an interview with Fox News, he said: “First of all, I want to say she’s an American hero.

“Everywhere she goes, I see now a lot of people are coming out and actually defending her.

“But obviously, if you’re standing up for something you believe in, you’re going to get hate all the time.

“But I think she’s inspiring not only the players in WNBA, but girls from all over the world.

“Not only in America because I get so many messages and they’re saying that, from all over the world, they’re saying ‘If you ever see Sophie, can you please say hi to her?’.”

While her comments have seen the WNBA player get some backlash, there are a number of fans who are supporting Cunningham.

Rallies in support of Sophie have also been taking place since she spoke out, including one earlier this week which saw Kim Slusser give a speech.

In it, Slusser stated: “Sophie chose to use her voice to stand up for women and girls in sports. And what she’s standing for is really very simple. Girls deserve a fair chance to compete. They deserve the opportunities created for female athletes. They deserve privacy in their locker rooms and in their apartments.”
