ASU athlete hospitalized after collapsing during outdoor exercise

An Arizona State University athlete collapsed during an outdoor exercise on the morning of Aug. 20 and remains hospitalized, according to a university statement.

"The university offers its support for the student-athlete, their family and all our student-athletes during this difficult time," said Chris Fiscus, vice president of media relations, on Aug. 23.

An ASU hockey player is in a Scottsdale hospital, The Arizona Republic has learned.

The Phoenix area has been experiencing extreme heat for days. The approximate temperature around noon on Aug. 20 was 100 degrees.
