La Liga giants Atlético Madrid will be forced to make do without a leading member of the club’s attacking ranks for the opening weeks of the fast-approaching new campaign.
This comes after Alexander Sørloth was condemned to an incoming spell on the treatment table.
Frontman Sørloth has for his part spent the last week ramping up his fitness levels with a view to the 2026/27 season. After playing his part for Norway at the World Cup, the 30-year-old has turned his focus firmly back towards matters at club level in Spain’s capital.
Like the rest of Diego Simeone’s World Cup participants, Sørloth has spent recent days in individualised training, under the watch of Atléti’s fitness staff.
During one such session early this week, however, the former Crystal Palace man suffered a setback. As per a report from Cadena SER:
‘Alexander Sørloth will miss the start of the league season due to injury. The Norwegian striker has suffered a muscle injury that will prevent him from being available for the first few matches of LaLiga.’
All told, Sørloth is expected to miss around four weeks of action.
