For the first time this summer, Bayonne Little League was thrown a curveball it could not overcome.

The New Jersey state champions suffered their first setback of the season Sunday, falling 6-0 to Davenport Northwest (Midwest) in Game 3 of the Little League World Series on Aug. 23 at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The loss snapped the Bees' 15-game winning streak and dropped the Hudson County squad into the elimination bracket where they will face Soundview of Tacoma, Washington (Northwest) on Tuesday, August 25 at 7 p.m.

Davenport Northwest, the squad out of Iowa representing the Midwest Region, will continue on in the winner’s side of the United States bracket where they will meet Nevada (Mountain) in the semifinals on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m.

The Bayonne 12-year-olds struggled at the plate on Sunday, managing just one hit while striking out 16 times as Davenport Northwest ace Anthony Johnson kept the Bees off balance in a near complete-game, 5⅔ innings effort. Joseph Dwyer accounted for Bayonne's lone hit of the game, a hard ground ball to the left side of the infield in the third inning.

The Bees were unable to generate any sustained rallies against the lefty Johnson, who silenced one of the tournament's hottest lineups.

Bayonne will now look to regroup in the elimination bracket, where it must win to keep its Little League World Series championship hopes alive.
