Big takeaways from the Steelers 17-0 preseason loss to the New York Jets

On Friday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed the New York Jets to town but struggled in all phases in a shutout loss. Let's look at our three big takeaways from the loss in Week Two of the preseason.

No answers at quarterback

Drew Allar was bad and Will Howard was worse. What was supposed to be a huge showdown with serious implications turned into a giant nothing burger and we are no closer to knowing how the depth chart is going to play out.

Defensive line is way ahead of the rest of the defense

The most regular-season-ready group on this team is the defensive line. They are talented, have some legitimate depth and continue to be disruptive.

Nick Herbig's role is becoming clear

When the team signed Nick Herbig to his massive contract, we said the best way to get him on the field with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith would be to line him up inside and so far, this is what we've seen a taste of and expect a lot more in the regular season.

This tells us nothing about the regular season offense

As bad as the offense looked, it is largely meaningless. Without Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. in the lineup, this offense is just a shell of what it can be.

Offensive line is still a work in progress

The coaches continued to shuffle the right side of the offensive line and no matter who was out there, it wasn't great. If there's anything to worry about right now, it's this problem not getting better anytime soon.
