The Los Angeles Rams surprised a lot of people when they selected quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick in this past NFL Draft. With Matthew Stafford still playing like one of the elite signal-callers in the NFL, there is not an immediate need for the Rams to find their next franchise quarterback. Yet being proactive and early regarding the most important position in all of sports has proven to be a winning proposition—as evidenced by the Green Bay Packers.

But he has now played in one that didn’t really count. And that seems to be enough for Colin Cowherd to pat himself on the back for predicting that the Rams would be vindicated for using their resources on Simpson.
“Media’s wrong again,” Cowherd surmised after Simpson shined in the Rams’ preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs over the weekend.

It was thoroughly impressive. It’s also mid-August and was he was competing against some guys who probably won’t be on the Chiefs’ roster when Week 1 kicks off.
“Ty Simpson was the best quarterback I saw all weekend,” Cowherd said. “Quarterback is set now and for the future.”
There is spiking the football after scoring a touchdown and there is spiking it as soon as the end zone comes into view. It’s going to be very entertaining how history judges this one.
Cowherd can really spin a yarn and at one point says that just because a lot of people in the media can’t multi-task, that doesn’t mean the Rams can’t.
Now, perhaps you remember this major backlash to the Rams picking Simpson. Or perhaps that’s being a bit overblown. Perhaps now you’re now a believer in this rookie quarterback after an hour and a half of exhibition football.
To each their own but that seems a little quick. Like, what if Simpson is bad in his second preseason opportunity? What then? Is the take still that the Rams are set up for the long-term future? Will be something to monitor.
