The Colorado Rapids have officially announced the acquisition of Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Sadiq from Dutch Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. This signing, revealed on Thursday, marks a significant addition to the Rapids' roster as they aim to strengthen their attacking capabilities in the ongoing Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

Ibrahim Sadiq, 26, has signed a contract with the Rapids that extends through the 2027-28 season, with an option for an additional year in 2028-29. His experience in European football, particularly over the last three seasons at AZ Alkmaar, where he made 85 appearances and contributed 18 goals and 7 assists, is expected to be invaluable for Colorado.

During his tenure at AZ Alkmaar, Sadiq played a crucial role in the team's success, including winning the Dutch Cup in the 2025-26 season. Prior to his time in the Netherlands, he showcased his talents at Swedish club BK Häcken and Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile attacking player.

Rapids president Pádraig Smith expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, "Ibrahim is an exciting attacking player who has demonstrated his quality across several competitive European leagues. His pace, directness, and ability to create and score goals from wide areas will add another important dimension to our attack. He also brings valuable experience of winning championships and competing in European competition. We are delighted to welcome Ibrahim to Colorado." This sentiment reflects the club's commitment to enhancing their performance as they push for a playoff spot.

Internationally, Sadiq has represented Ghana at various youth levels, including participation in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Although he has received calls to the senior national team, he has yet to make his debut, indicating potential for future contributions on the international stage.

The Rapids have been active in the summer transfer window, completely revamping their attacking lineup. The team recently signed Sayed Abu Farkhi and traded their leading goalscorer Rafael Navarro to St. Louis CITY SC. Reports suggest that the Rapids are also close to finalizing a club-record deal for Middlesbrough FC winger Morgan Whittaker, further emphasizing their intent to bolster their squad.

As of now, the Colorado Rapids sit in seventh place in the Western Conference with 31 points, boasting a record of 10 wins, 11 losses, and 1 draw. With the MLS playoffs on the horizon, the addition of Sadiq and other new signings could prove pivotal in the team's pursuit of postseason success.
