This weekend, Kim Kreuzman, an accomplished marathon runner and running coach, will participate in the Around the Crown 10K in Charlotte, North Carolina, pushing her two children in a double stroller. Her journey as a runner has been remarkable, especially as she has completed three marathons during her pregnancies.

Kreuzman has set an ambitious goal to run 50 marathons across all 50 states, a commitment that remained steadfast even after learning about her pregnancies. Her passion for running goes beyond competition; she emphasizes the joy and community aspect of the sport. “We don’t always run for speed. We run for joy a lot, and just to see our community, to see the world,” she shared in an interview.

The Around the Crown 10K is known for its inclusivity and community spirit, making it a fitting event for Kreuzman and her family. “It’s such a fun race. I would say Charlotte’s best and biggest hometown race. It’s run so well and is so inclusive,” she noted. The event features various divisions, including one for strollers and another for adaptive athletes, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate.

Kreuzman’s experience as a mother and athlete has been intertwined, as she recalls running during her pregnancies. “When I was pregnant with my first one, I didn’t know I was pregnant and so I was training for a race, and found out after that marathon,” she explained. This unique experience has allowed her to bond with her daughters through running, as they have shared the journey together.

Throughout her running career, Kreuzman has embraced the lessons learned from balancing motherhood and athletics. She emphasizes the importance of adaptability and resilience, stating, “It might not be necessarily what you anticipated, you expected, but forward is a pace, and to respect that and honor that.” Her perspective serves as a reminder that progress can take many forms, and gratitude for the ability to move is essential.

As she prepares for the race this weekend, Kreuzman embodies the spirit of the Around the Crown 10K, showcasing that running can be a family affair. Her story not only inspires fellow runners but also highlights the importance of community and support in achieving personal goals.
