It is now official. FC Barcelona goalkeeper Aron Yaakobishvili will spend the season on loan at UD Almería, who have an option to buy him at the end of the campaign.
Barcelona confirmed the goalkeeper’s departure on Thursday, giving Yaakobishvili another opportunity to gain experience in La Liga Hypermotion after spending last season on loan at Andorra.
“FC Barcelona and UD Almería have reached an agreement for the loan of player Aron Yaakobishvili until June 30, 2027. The Andalusian club has an option to buy,” the club statement read.
The 20-year-old shot-stopper has been at La Masia since 2018. Having risen through the ranks at the academy, he made his Barça Atletic debut in September 2024, and spent the last season on loan at Andorra.
Having returned to Barcelona this summer, Yaakobishvili started pre-season with the first team, but the young goalkeeper prioritized finding regular playing time so that his development would not stall.
He arrived in Almería several days ago and was already spotted in the directors’ box at his new club’s stadium, watching their match against Eldense and celebrating a convincing 3-0 victory.
With Yaakobishvili’s departure now confirmed, Barcelona have planned to alternate Eder Aller and Iker Rodríguez as the first team’s third goalkeeper.
However, in recent hours, the club are also moving for for Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who could provide another option for strengthening the position.
