As expected, Axel Disasi is heading to Crystal Palace. Unfortunately and somewhat unexpectedly — or perhaps expectedly? — he is heading there only just on loan. And there’s not even a buy-option! That’s definitely unexpected.
According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Palace and Chelsea have a “verbal agreement” over all this, with Palace now needing to convince Disasi. While presumably the 28-year-old defender would prefer a permanent move as well, it’s not like his Chelsea contract is expiring anytime soon either (three more years of guaranteed income).
Hawkins adds that it will be a “paid loan” — i.e. Palace will be paying a (small) loan fee — but the failure to agree a permanent transfer will be disappointing. Not even a buy-option, regardless of how meaningless those can be (quite often, one might even say).
But at least Disasi won’t have to take another turn in the Bomb Squad, so there’s that. Maybe if we had five more sporting directors, we could get things done better.
