The Miami Dolphins are set to take on the Las Vegas Raiders in less than a month.

Following two preseason games, the lack of depth on the roster has become a major concern for Miami. After the starting offense led the Dolphins to an opening drive touchdown in their first preseason game, the team’s reserves have been outscored 46-3 since.

And while Miami’s issue with its depth is something that will likely rear its head later in the season, some concerning updates have caused worry for the team’s opener in Las Vegas.

The Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly, Barry Jackson and Isaiah Smalls reported from Monday’s training camp that rookies Will Kacmarek and Trey Moore were out of practice. Moore suffered an ankle injury during the team’s loss against the New York Giants as he applied pressure on quarterback Jameis Winston. Moore was one of the rookies, who was projected to be a starter in Week 1. Unfortunately, head coach Jeff Hafley revealed that Moore “won’t be back soon.”

Meanwhile, Kacmarek’s injury or reason for missing practice is currently unknown. Kacmarek was Miami’s starting tight end in their preseason game against the Giants, where he totaled 15 snaps. Similarly to Moore, Kacmarek was expected to play a significant role for the team in the regular season. Hopefully, his absence is something that does not affect his availability in the regular season.

Additionally, All-Pro linebacker Jordyn Brooks remains sidelined. Brooks has not participated in any of Miami’s preseason games, and was seen wearing a non-contact jersey at practice; however, he was not an active participant in team drills. Miami’s other potential starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson was at practice, but did not participate in team drills either as he is also dealing with an injury.

Last year’s first-round pick Kenneth Grant also remains sidelined with his status being week-to-week, according to head coach Jeff Hafley. Grant has been one of Miami’s players to reportedly be disappointing for the team this offseason.

Dolphins Get Return of Promising Player

However, not everything was negative in the team’s practice. Monday’s session featured the first time rookie wide receiver Chris Bell was out of his red non-contact jersey and a full participant with the team.

Regarding his participation, Dolphins on SI’s Alain Poupart wrote of Bell’s participation: “Bell did get a couple of full-speed reps, but he didn’t make a catch, dropping a Malik Willis floater in the middle of the field after the pass barely cleared linebacker Jacob Rodriguez.”

While Bell did not shine, it is encouraging to see Bell, who is recovering from a late-season ACL tear, back on the field. He was projected to be a late first- or second-round pick prior to his injury.

Miami drafted him in the third round. Bell was ranked as the 68th-best prospect by NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah heading into the 2026 NFL Draft.

Eric Galko, the director of football operations for the East-West Shrine Bowl previously spoke with the Miami Herald on the type of player Bell is. Galko said, “If he doesn’t get hurt in November, he’s a first-round pick. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being the Dolphins’ best receiver by the second half of the season.”
