Dominik Szoboszlai has been speaking after Liverpool got a very fortunate penalty deep into added time.
The referee somehow giving the scousers five minutes of bonus time to try and get an equaliser, despite neither side having a single player treated on the pitch in the entire second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai asked by official Liverpool club media what the atmosphere was like to play in: “Obviously to come to St James’ Park is always a tough game. The first game of the season away in Newcastle….everybody knows how difficult it is. Obviously the Newcastle United fans are unbelievable, they have a great team, a good manager – obviously new but he showed himself in many other clubs.”
The pre-match was an incredible experience if you were inside St James’ Park.
The Wor Flags display and both sets of fans giving Kevin Keegan the kind of send off that he deserved.
The atmosphere during the actual match was generally excellent as well throughout the game.
Dominik Szoboszlai explaining when he was waiting to take the penalty:“To be honest, I didn’t even hear the whistle of the ref, so I had to look at him to see if I can go…I don’t know how many in the stadium, 50,000 against you. Actually you can’t hear your own voice but that’s why we love football, that’s why I love football.”
Liverpool also have a new boss and Dominik Szoboszlai grateful that his team grabbed that vert late undeserved point: “We were prepared but I think we, with the new manager as well, we need to get even more closer to each other, we need to know what’s going on during the game. But it’s a good step actually after a 2-1 deficit, to come back into the game, and we prepare again for next week.”
A leading question from the scouse club’s media asking Dominik Szoboszlai if Liverpool should have won the match:“If I’m honest, yes. I think we were able to win, but that’s football. You don’t win easy in the Premier League, it doesn’t matter against who you play. They were a good team, scored two transition goals. These are the things we have to be aware of and we have to take care in the next weeks as well.”
Not sure about the use of the word “Honest”, over the course of the match and especially once Newcastle United regained the lead, I doubt any neutral would agree with Dominik Szoboszlai about his claim that Liverpool deserved to win.
