Eagles release J.T. Gray, waive/injured Ja’Quinden Jackson

The Eagles announced two roster moves Monday, releasing veteran safety J.T. Gray and waiving running back Ja’Quinden Jackson with an injury designation. Gray signed a one-year contract with Philadelphia during the offseason and entered training camp as one of the NFL’s most accomplished special teams players. The nine-year veteran earned three All-Pro selections as a special teamer and was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2021 season.

Gray appeared in 103 games during stops with the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the Eagles. He was competing for a reserve safety role and a place among Philadelphia’s core special teams contributors.

His departure creates additional opportunities for the younger defensive backs competing for the final spots in the secondary.

Jackson’s move follows the frightening injury he sustained on the opening kickoff of Philadelphia’s 24-21 preseason loss to the New England Patriots. Jackson remained on the field after making a tackle and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The Eagles later announced that Jackson had strength and movement in all extremities. His agent said a CT scan was negative and that Jackson was awake and alert. He was released from the hospital and traveled back to Philadelphia with the team.

Jackson joined the Eagles on Aug. 10 after spending the 2025 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. Jackson must now pass through waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he would revert to Philadelphia’s injured reserve unless the two sides reach an injury settlement.
