Carlisle United head coach Rob Elliot insists he has no problem with his side being booed by their own supporters.
The 3-2 defeat at Brunton Park by newly promoted Worthing, which opened their National League campaign, drew a negative response from the home support at the final whistle.
But while it was not the sound the former Gateshead boss wanted to hear after his first game in charge, he refused to criticise the reaction.
He feels it was more a reflection of deep-seated frustrations among the fanbase than at the side's performance on Saturday.
"It was a good insight to me in terms of the atmosphere at the ground and in the crowd and where it can change if things go against us. I think it's a real lesson for the lads that have come in," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"We have to learn to adapt to the fact that there's expectation here, and when things go against us, we need to be mentally resilient and strong and stick to what we do and what works.
"I addressed it. I just said, 'That's part of being at a big club.' I don't think it's anything specifically different to when I was at Newcastle or Charlton. You've got to handle that as a player.
"I have no issue with people booing. It doesn't change what we are going to do and how good we are going to be.
"It's going to take time. I'll ask for patience, but I'm not going to criticise anyone for booing. People pay their money; they can express themselves how they want.
"What I would say is that this is a good group of people who want to work hard for the club. It has been a really difficult two or three years, and it's hard for that frustration not to come out.
"First game of the season you want to win. When it doesn't happen, you take your medicine, but you don't shy away from it; you don't stress about it, you just keep working hard, and you show your resilience and that you are willing to get better."
Carlisle travel to Yeovil, who kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe, on Saturday.
