Evaluating play of Colts rookies in preseason game v. Falcons

Following the Indianapolis Colts' Week 2 preseason matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, how did the members of the 2026 rookie draft class perform?

Let's take a closer look, along with where each player stands within their respective position groups.

In his first preseason game, Allen shared the field with Bryce Boettcher, as the two alternated series with Jaylon Carlies and Austin Ajiake. Allen would end up playing 20 snaps. He made four total tackles and allowed three receptions for 40 yards. He is competing for playing time next to Akeem Davis-Gaither.

Haulcy, along with the other Colts starters, did not play, telling us that he will be starting next to Cam Bynum come Week 1, which was expected.

Farmer did not play in Week 2 of the preseason. He has been filling the backup guard role, specifically on the right side of the line.

Boettcher made all three of his tackle attempts and allowed just one reception for six yards. He flies around the field. Boettcher will likely fill a backup role this season. As of now, it looks like Davis-Gaither will start, while one of Carlies and Allen is likely to fill the other starting role.

Gumbs made both of his tackle attempts and generated one pressure over 22 pass-rush snaps. How big of a role he has in Year 1 remains to be seen. He is potentially a bit buried on the DE depth chart, but the uncertainty around the depth of this unit could create some opportunities.

Curry had a big performance against New England, but was quieter in Week 2. He logged two pressures on 13 pass rush snaps, assisted on a tackle, but was also credited with a missed tackle attempt as well.

McGowan totaled 27 yards on eight carries. There often weren't many running lanes for him to take advantage of. He also caught a pass for five yards. McGowan has seemed to secure the RB2 role.

Burks would lead the team in receptions with four, totaling 19 yards. He also accounted for 120 kick return yards on five attempts. He and Coleman Owen are battling for potentially the final roster spot at wide receiver.
