On Tuesday, BFW ran a post detailing Bayern Munich’s installation of an anti-spying, privacy wall to prevent reporters and fans from seeing training sessions.
Bild, who broke the initial story, released a picture of what the wall looks like in action. For anyone seeking to sneak a peek of training, they will have to be elevated to get a good view when the wall’s tarps are released:

In recent years, secret training sessions have become increasingly common: Pep Guardiola (55) introduced this practice by placing a huge, grey curtain around one of the main pitches, which stewards could draw closed. The problem: In freezing temperatures or windy conditions, the curtain often malfunctioned. Under Julian Nagelsmann (39), the second main pitch also became a secret training ground: This time with retractable, grey blinds. However, these too experienced occasional technical problems.
So now we have the rope system with the retractable tarpaulin, intended to keep out spies, fans, and the press – and this time it almost completely obstructs the view of the entire Bayern Munich grounds. Perhaps professional – but anything but fan-friendly…

BFW AnalysisEh, maybe this is a little extreme, but why does anyone do anything? Because they can.
Bayern Munich has put in this measure to stop reporters and potentially thwart other teams from snapping pics and gathering information. Will it stop fans from getting an easy view? Sure, but the Bavarians do also hold a series of open training session throughout the season.
In the end, it is probably a necessary step for the modern game, even if some folks think it is a bit of overkill.
