The 2026-27 college basketball season is still a few months away and the excitement is high for the Duke Blue Devils despite how last season ended.
Duke will welcome in the No. 1 overall recruiting class, a good transfer portal class, and some key players back. Jon Scheyer's team is already the favorite in the Atlantic Coast Conference and among the favorites to win the national championship.
And rightfully so. But the future of the program is always in focus in terms of recruiting.
As far as future classes go, the Blue Devils have just one player committed. Class of 2027 recruit Kager Knueppel has committed, and as he approaches five-star status, the Blue Devils are going to need to land some other big talent.
Recently, a five-star commit with family ties to the Blue Devils is speaking out on his recruitment and if he's a fan of Duke.
Will Brunson, the son of former Duke player Stan, is a five-star small forward in the 2028 recruiting class. He's drawing significant interest from several programs but he recently spoke on his recruitment with "The Up Next Podcast" and was asked if he's a Duke fan at all.
“My dad went to Duke, so everybody in the house is always going for Duke when I was growing up, but in the past three years I just became a huge college basketball fan,” he said on the Up Next Podcast. “I turn on YouTube and look at the replays of March Madness. I’m not really a fan of nobody right now.”
That's an interesting answer but one that makes sense. You would think that due to his father being a former Blue Devils player, he would be a big fan. But that's not always the case in this era.
As for his recruitment, Brunson says the opportunity to get on the floor is key for him.
“I’m looking for an opportunity to get on the floor,” Brunson said on the podcast. “But I also want a coach that believes in me and wants to put work into my development.”
Brunson has a total of 19 offers, including from Kansas, Louisville, Auburn, and Indiana among others. He's ranked No. 19 nationally, No. 5 small forward and No. 6 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
