Hansi Flick has made no attempt to hide his excitement following Rodri’s official move to Barcelona, with the manager describing the Spanish midfielder as one of the best players in his position.
Rodri’s arrival gives Barcelona a major new option in midfield, and Flick believes the club had no reason to hesitate once the opportunity to sign the former Manchester City star became available.
Speaking to Barcelona’s media after the transfer was confirmed, the German coach explained why there was complete agreement within the club over the operation.
“It was a great opportunity for us to secure him, so we were all 100 per cent convinced because he is a fantastic player,” said the German coach.
What makes Rodri an important signingThe Barcelona manager was particularly enthusiastic when discussing the qualities Rodri will bring to the team.
The former Manchester City midfielder is known for his ability to control games, but Flick believes his influence goes well beyond his work in possession.

“He’s a fantastic player who brings something special to every team, and for me it’s brilliant to have him here,” the German manager said.
Rodri’s experience at the highest level is another major factor. During his time at Manchester City, he won every major trophy available to him, while his success with Spain added another dimension to his career.
Flick went even further when assessing his new signing, suggesting that Rodri could be the finest defensive midfielder in the game.
“I think he might be the best number 6,” said Flick, before adding that “he can control the game, but he also helps out in defence.
“He can win aerial duels, which is very important for us, and of course he raises the standard of every player,” he concluded.

Barcelona will not have to wait long before Rodri starts working with his new teammates.
The midfielder recently underwent back surgery, but he has reportedly made it clear that he expects to be available for Wednesday morning’s training session.
That will allow Flick and his coaching staff to begin integrating him into the squad ahead of the new season.
However, Barcelona fans may have to wait a little longer to see Rodri make his debut.
The Blaugrana are preparing for the Joan Gamper Cup clash against Al-Ahly, but it is extremely unlikely that Flick will give his new signing playing time in the match.
