After months of practices, weightlifting sessions and preseason games, football teams across the Volusia-Flagler area will put their skills to the test during Week 1.
The first week of the high school football season kicks off with a single game on Thursday, Aug. 20, when Spruce Creek hosts Erie (Colo.) in an east vs. west clash. The other 10 contests featuring local schools will take place the following day under the traditional Friday night lights.
Week 1 has three games between local schools, including two rivalry games. Matanzas visits Flagler Palm Coast in the Potato Bowl for Flagler County bragging rights, and Pine Ridge will make a short trip to Deltona for the Battle of the Boulevard.

Seabreeze travels to Father Lopez for the final intra-area matchup.
Perhaps the most intriguing game of the week is Mainland vs. Carol City. The Bucs, a 2025 Class 5A regional finalist, will play host to the Chiefs, who are ranked No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in Florida by MaxPreps.
